Sheriff’s Log: Nov. 20-24

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Nov. 20 to Nov. 24. “It is important to note that no assumption of criminal guilt or affiliation should be drawn from the content of the information provided in this report.  Many people who get arrested do not get convicted or even charged with crimes for which they have been arrested,” said Capt. Doug Fetteroll, commander of the Station.

    

November 20

November 20

• An Avalon resident was cited for operating a noisy vehicle, for driving a non-permitted vehicle on city streets, for operating a vehicle without insurance and for being an unlicensed driver.

• An Avalon resident in the 400 block of Avalon Canyon Road reported being the victim of a burglary after witnessing and confronting 1 suspect removing property from his shed.

•  Deputies conducted a probation search at a residence on Pebbly Beach Road after receiving reports of keys being stolen from golf carts parked on the street.  Deputies found one set of keys in the residence that were stolen from a neighbor’s golf cart and returned them to the owner.     

November 21

• At 2:25 p.m., a juvenile Avalon resident was arrested for the burglary that occurred on November 20, 2014 and for taking a vehicle without the owner’s permission, aka: “Joyriding” that occurred earlier in the month.

November 22

• At 5:00 p.m., Jerry Tejeda, M/18, an Avalon resident, was arrested for a burglary that occurred on November 13, 2014 on Pebbly Beach Road, taking a golf cart without the owner’s permission, aka: “Joyriding” that occurred earlier in the month and for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

November 23

• No significant incidents.

November 24

• An Avalon resident reported a man entered her home on Clarissa Avenue and assaulted her.

•  At 5:50 p.m., Juan Martinez-Melendez, an Avalon resident, was arrested for battery.

Golf carts

For the second week in a row, no golf carts were reported stolen.  Reminder – Anyone with information regarding the taking of another person’s golf cart, is encouraged to notify the detectives at the Avalon Sheriff’s Station. Under California Law, it is a felony to “Joyride” and prosecution will be sought.

Crime Stoppers mailbox

A Crime Stoppers mailbox has been mounted to the wall near the entrance to City Council Chambers.  Anyone wishing to anonymously share information, ideas or comments with the Sheriff’s Station, who would prefer not to do so in person or by phone, is encouraged to leave a note in the box.  The contents of the box will be checked regularly by Capt. Doug Fetteroll.
