Sheriff’s Log: Nov. 2 to Nov. 8, 2023

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of November 2 to November 8, 2023.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted,

November 3

  • Deputies responded to Hermit Gulch for a theft report call. The victim stated she placed all her camping and personal items into a lock box. When she returned, she noticed someone had broken into the lock box and stole everything. The case is being investigated.

November 4

  • Deputies were contacted at the Sheriff’s Station by a woman reporting a grand theft. The woman stated she had $5000 inside her bedroom and when she returned from Overtown the money was missing. There were no witnesses to the incident and detectives are attempting to locate video surveillance near the home.

November 5

  • Deputies responded to a suspicious person call on Camino Del Monte. The caller stated a person was hunched over in the front seat of a golf cart. The deputies contacted a woman who stated she was doing just fine and was enjoying a mid-morning nap.
  • Deputies responded to the Mole regarding 4 adults smoking marijuana. The deputies contacted the pot smokers and advised them it was a violation to smoke weed in public. They reminded them of laws pertaining to marijuana and public use. The smokers were very calm and cooperative with the deputies.
  • Deputies responded to the Green Pleasure Pier for a family disturbance. The caller was a female who was crying and arguing with her brother. The deputies contacted the woman who stated she did not want to return to the boat because she was upset. The woman stayed on land and rented a room at a local hotel. There was no evidence of any crime, only family tea.

November 6

  • Deputies responded to Bird Park for a trespassing, disturbance call. The deputies determined a crime had occurred and an individual had violated a court ordered protection order. The individual had left the location once the deputies arrived and ran into the woods. A few hours later, Deputy McCloud located the suspect and placed Jesus Meison, 24, of Avalon, under arrest on suspicion of violating a protection order.

November 7

  • Deputies responded to the 100 block of Catalina Avenue to investigate a theft and forgery case. The deputies determined a forged check in the amount of $15,000 had been cashed by a crook. Detectives are working the case.

Safety Note

Please make sure you are locking your vehicles and securing your bicycles to avoid someone from stealing them. You should also be securing all tools and valuables inside your home or garage. Thieves look for easy targets. Don’t make it easy.
