Sheriff’s Log: Nov. 17 to Nov. 22, 2022

Editor’s note: The fol­low­­­ing is the Avalon Sheriff’s Sta­tion significant incidents report for the period of Nov. 17 to Nov. 22, 2022. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

November 17

• A deputy on patrol observed a driver commit a vehicle code violation at Sumner Avenue and Beacon Street.

The deputy conducted a traffic enforcement stop at cited the driver for not having a driver’s license and failing to have insurance on his vehicle.

November 18

• Deputies in Two Harbors conducted boat patrol on the coastline from Two harbors to Avalon and the west side of the island.

November 19

• Deputies responded to a traffic collision on the 300 block of Descanso Avenue.

The caller stated his golf cart was parked on the street and was struck by another vehicle. There was minor damage to the vehicle.

The case is under investigation.

November 20

• Deputies responded to a disturbance on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue.

The caller stated several people were drunk at the location and trying to start a fight.

The deputies arrived and contacted the intoxicated people. They observed them yelling and causing problems at the establishment.

The deputies used their excellent communication skills and the disturbing parties realized it was in their best interest to go home.

• Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Pebbly Beach Road. The caller stated a possible theft occurred and a fight was about to occur. The deputies arrived and detained all the involved parties.

They conducted an investigation and interviewed the participants. There was not enough evidence for the deputies to make an arrest because it was a misdemeanor crime not committed in their presence.

The victim of the crime placed the two men under private persons arrest for tampering with an automobile. Detectives are investigating the case and reviewing video surveillance from the area.

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Eucalyptus Avenue regarding a vehicle parked illegally. The deputies observed the vehicle and issued a parking citation.

November 21

• Deputies were contacted at the Sheriff’s Station by a man who stated someone was using his social security number. The deputies wrote a crime report and the case is being investigated by detectives.
