Sheriff’s Log: Nov. 14 to Nov. 20, 2024

Avalon Sheriff's Station.

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Nov. 14 to Nov. 20, 2024. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

November 15

  • Detective Meyers was walking out of the Vons grocery store when he was advised by an employee that a male had just stole items and left the store. Detective Meyers provided a description and location of the thief over his radio and followed him on foot. A sergeant and deputy were on patrol and immediately responded to the area. They located Mr. Sticky Fingers and drove him back to Vons where he settled his debt with the store manager. It is probably not very wise to steal when the sheriff is in the store.

November 17

  • A woman waiting in line for a departing boat observed smoke coming from a residence on Marilla Avenue. The deputies arrived and contacted the owners of the home. They determined there was no fire at the location. However, there were some delicious lamb chops being prepared on the grill. Please pass me the mint jelly!

November 17

  • Deputies responded to a vandalism call at the Green Pleasure Pier. The caller stated there was graffiti in the men’s restroom. The estimated cost of damages is $500 and the case is being investigated.

November 18

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call at the Botanical Gardens. The caller stated juveniles were driving their E-Bikes recklessly. The deputies responded and were unable to locate the disruptive kids.

November 19

  • Deputies and the fire departments responded to a restaurant on Crescent Avenue for a medical call for service. They located a female who was passed out in the women’s restroom. The woman was evaluated and transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
  • Deputies responded to a theft call at Vons. The informant stated someone had stolen the headlights from his golf cart while he was inside shopping. I would say the thief left him in the dark. Detective Meyers is investigating the case and will be reviewing video surveillance.

November 20

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call at a restaurant on Catalina Avenue. The caller stated a man was drunk and had just left the establishment. The deputies arrived and checked the surrounding area. They were unable to locate anyone who appeared to be intoxicated. It was only 12 noon and there were not many day drinkers out.
