The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of May 25 to May 31, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
May 25
- Deputy Montoya and Captain King met with high school students at Avalon School. They discussed underage drinking, unlicensed driving and fighting. They explained how the criminal justice and juvenile systems worked and what could be expected if they committed any violations.
May 26
- Sergeant Durante conducted numerous traffic enforcement stops on Falls Canyon Road. He warned all the drivers of the importance and safety issues of failing to stop at posted stop signs.
May 27
- Deputies observed a golf cart driving erratically on Marilla Avenue. The cart nearly struck the deputy’s patrol jeep as it drove past. The deputies conducted a traffic stop and arrested Blake Blackburn, 24, of Fresno, on suspicion of DUI. He was booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.
- Captain King saw a man driving a golf cart on Pebbly Beach Road. The cart failed to stay in its lane of travel and almost struck Captain King’s Sheriff’s Jeep. Captain King stopped the vehicle and determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested for DUI and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.
May 28
- Deputies on foot patrol observed a man on Crescent Avenue who appeared to be drunk. They detained the man and while talking to him his girlfriend showed up. The woman said she would take her boyfriend home and put him to bed.
May 29
- A deputy and sergeant responded to a business disturbance at a hotel on Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a man was at the front desk getting irate because the manager would not give him a room number. The deputy and sergeant contacted the manager who stated it was against policy and a danger to disclose guests room numbers. They also spoke to the irate man who said he needed to get ahold of his brother-in-law so they could depart the island. The man was ultimately located and woken up. The family was reunited and departed to Long Beach on their Jet Skis.
- Deputies responded to the “Plaza” in Two Harbors regarding a couple arguing. They contacted the man and woman and conducted an investigation. During the investigation the woman stated the man threw rocks at her, but they did not hit her. She also stated the man pushed her on the chest. Jesse Trujillo, 48, of Illinois, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and booked at Avalon Station.
- Deputies responded to the 100 block of Metropole Avenue regarding a disturbance involving a man and woman. The caller stated a couple had an argument and the woman was requesting a deputy. The deputies spoke to the woman who stated that during a verbal argument, her boyfriend pushed her causing her to fall and scrape her arm. Suspect Paul Lewis, 30, of Sacramento, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and booked at Avalon Station.
May 30
- Deputies responded to Isthmus Pier regarding a disturbance. They contacted a man and woman who appeared to be arguing. While talking with the man and woman they could tell both had enjoyed a few beverages at the Isthmus. The parties were counseled regarding their drama and were cooperative.
