Sheriff’s Log: May 1-7, 2019 With Capt. John Hocking

Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of May 1 to May 7, 2019. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

May 1

• Deputies responded to Avalon School regarding a 15-year-old that possessed marijuana at school. The juvenile was issued a citation and will have a court date in the near future.

May 2

• Deputies responded to the 800 block of Country Club Drive regarding an intoxicated male. Deputies contacted the individual and were able to get him back to his room.

May 3

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Sumner Avenue regarding five to six juveniles arguing with adults and a fight was pending. Deputies determined no crimes occurred and the parties separated.

May 4

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Descanso Avenue regarding a vandalism. Someone threw a water bottle through the front window of the residence. The investigation is ongoing.

May 5

• Deputies received a call of two intoxicated individuals at Hamilton Cove. One of the two was bleeding. Deputies ended up arresting Yitong Dai of Irvine on suspicion of being drunk in public. The other individual was treated by paramedics and transported to the hospital.

• Avalon Sheriff’s Station personnel attended the Catalina Island Catalina Island Women’s Forum Domestic Violence training in conjunction with the Rainbow Domestic Violence organization.

May 6

• Deputies were contacted regarding an argument that occurred in the 200 block of Sumner Avenue. Both parties filed a police report on each other. The case will be presented to the district attorney’s office for filing consideration.

May 7

• Deputies responded to a call for service where a juvenile needed to be transported to the mainland for a psychiatric evaluation.
