Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of March 6 to 12, 2019.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
March 6
• Deputies and the fire department responded to Third Street and Clarissa Avenue regarding an uncooperative intoxicated male who fell and hit his head. First responders were able to get the injured male to the hospital so he could get the care that he needed.
March 7
• Deputies and the fire department responded to the 300 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a medical emergency. A 92-year-old woman died of natural causes.
March 8
• Deputies arrested Christian Jones, of Upland, on suspicion of being drunk in public and for having $106,000 in outstanding warrants after he was reportedly causing a disturbance at the Catalina Express ticket office.
March 9
• Deputies arrested Salvador Perez, of Avalon, on suspicion of being drunk in public after he was reportedly causing a disturbance in the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. He was transported to the hospital after he repeatedly banged his head again the jail cell door.
• Deputies issued a citation to a motorist for failing to stop at a stop sign on Catalina Avenue at Beacon Street.
March 10
• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Metropole Avenue regarding a keep the peace property retrieval call.
March 11
• Deputies received a call of a stolen bicycle in the 200 block of Casitas Avenue. The bicycle was sitting in the front yard and not locked when it was taken.
March 12
• Deputies and Code Enforcement received a call of an illegally parked golf cart on Eucalyptus Avenue. It turned out, the golf cart was not in violation and was legally parked.
Safety Note
It is against the law to play music from a moving vehicle (golf cart) when the music can be heard 50 or more feet from the vehicle. (27007 of the California Vehicle Code.)
