Sheriff’s Log: March 28 to April 3, 2024

Avalon Sheriff's Station.

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period March 28 to April 3, 2024.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

March 28

  • Deputies responded to a family disturbance call on Descanso Ave. The caller stated a man and woman were heard arguing for several hours.

The deputies contacted the disturbing parties and determined there was no crime being committed and it was a brother and sister talking loudly. The brother was visiting from Florida and was reminded it was 6 in the morning and he needed to adjust his Circadian rhythm to the Pacific Time Zone.

  • Deputies were contacted at the station by a man who stated he was being threatened by a juvenile. A criminal threats report was written and the case is being investigated by Detective Meyers.

March 29

  • Deputies responded to a fight call on the 200 block of Sumner Avenue. When the deputies arrived, they saw 3 men squared off in fighting stances. The deputies separated the combatants and conducted an investigation. They determined nobody actually fought and they were only running their mouths.

The deputies located a 3rd man who was involved in the incident. When they contacted him, it was obvious he was drunk as he could not walk and had a hard time keeping his balance. The man wanted to let the deputy know he was not involved in any fight and that he lived on the deputy’s mother. (Deputies were as confused by the statement as readers likely are to be.) Oscar DelReal, 30, of Los Angeles, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and was booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

  • A sergeant on patrol observed a vehicle make an unsafe turn. A traffic enforcement stop was conducted and the driver was issued a citation for being unlicensed and making an unsafe lane change.

March 30

  • Deputies responded to the Green Pleasure Pier at the request of harbor patrol. The harbor officers were attempting to help a man get to his vessel and realized he was extremely intoxicated. The deputies spoke to the man and immediately noticed the signs of intoxication. Eleven McNally, 26, of Avalon, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

March 31

  • The captain responded to a trespassing call at the Casino. The caller stated a man named Andrew was at the location and the victim had a letter of agency against him. The captain located the man at the Casino and arrested Andrew Sampson, 36, of Avalon, on suspicion of trespassing. The man was issued a citation for trespassing and will appear in court at a later date.

April 1

  • A deputy on patrol observed a vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign on Sumner Ave. and Tremont Ave.

The driver was issued a citation for the offense.

April 2

  • A deputy on patrol observed a vehicle illegally parked on Casino Way.

The vehicle was issued a citation for parking in the fire lane.

  • A deputy on foot patrol observed a man drinking a beer on Crescent Ave.

He politely asked the man to either throw the beer away or go back to the pier and drink it in the designated area.

The man ignored the deputy’s request and decided to enjoy his beer where he wanted to. The kind deputy contacted the man a 2nd time and politely wrote him a ticket.

I’m sure that was the most expensive Modelo the man has ever purchased.

  • Deputies responded to Step Beach for a loud music call. The informant stated 3 males were playing a guitar and shouting.

The deputies contacted the musicians in training and emphasized they needed a lot more practice.

They also told them nobody wanted to hear that noise at midnight. The trio left without any problems.
