Sheriff’s Log: March 27-April 2, 2019

Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of March 27 to April 2, 2019.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

March 27

• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Metropole Avenue regarding a child abuse investigation. Deputies determined the child was not abused and no crimes occurred.

March 28

• Deputies issued a motorist a citation for failing to stop at the stop sign on Catalina Avenue at Beacon Street.

March 29

• Deputies responded to a traffic collision on St. Catherine Way near the Casino. A motorist was driving too fast, then made a turn rolling the golf cart on its side. There were only minor injuries.

March 30

• Deputies arrested Joseph Say of Avalon in the 200 block of Clarissa Avenue on suspicion of assaulting a victim, which required the victim to be airlifted to a hospital on the mainland.

• Deputies arrested Ryan Nelson of Oceanside on suspicion of being drunk in public, vandalism, and resisting arrest in the 400 block of Crescent Avenue.

March 31

• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a fight call. When deputies arrived, they learned two intoxicated people had been fighting and left the scene.

• Deputies received a call of a man with a gun in the 100 block of Metropole Avenue. Deputies detained the man and learned that he did not have a gun despite him bragging to others that he did.

April 1

• A victim reported to deputies that someone used his credit card number illegally charging $69 on it. The transaction was done over the internet.

April 2

• Deputies responded to Third Street and Clarissa Avenue regarding a drunk male walking in the street. Deputies contacted the male who had been drinking. His wife took him to their hotel room.
