Sheriff’s Log: June 8 to June 14, 2023

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of June 8 to June 14, 2023.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

June 8

  • Deputies responded to a suspicious person call at Descanso Beach. The caller stated a man was attempting to have a bon fire on the beach. The deputies contacted the man and warned him of the dangers associated with fires on Catalina Island. The man did not start a fire and was very cooperative. The deputies also reminded him it was 130 in the morning and he should probably head home to rest.
  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 300 block of Sumner Avenue. The caller stated a man was using power tools before 8am and it was not allowed. The deputies contacted the man and told him although eager to get to work, he started using his power tools 14 minutes too early and was disturbing someone nearby. The man was apologetic and agreed to wait for the 8am bell to ring.

June 9

  • Deputies responded to a business disturbance on the 100 block of Catalina Avenue. They contacted the store clerk and a customer who were arguing at the location. The customer was arguing over the price of an item she was attempting to purchase. The deputies told the woman it was her decision and if she didn’t like the price don’t buy the item. The woman must have really wanted the items because she paid and left the location.

June 10

  • Deputies were contacted at the station by a man who stated he was having relationship problems. The deputies spoke with the man and offered him advice on how to foster a positive, loving relationship. They also advised him if his relationship was toxic, harmful or dangerous, he may want to look into a restraining order.

June 11

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance on Banning Drive. The caller stated a man was disturbing numerous people at the location.

Deputies contacted the man and determined he was intoxicated and unable to care for himself. Suspect Ricardo Chase, 24, of Stanton, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and booked at Avalon Station.

June 13

  • Deputies responded to a loud music disturbance call on Stagecoach Road.

The caller stated kids were playing loud music in the area. The deputies responded and contacted a female adult at the location. They advised her it was 2 in the morning and she should show a little respect for others.

They told the woman to turn her music off and go home.

The woman was cooperative with the deputies.
