The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of June 6 to June 12, 2024. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
June 6
- Deputies responded to an overturned golf cart on Wrigley Road. The driver of the golf cart sustained injuries and was treated by medical personnel.
- Deputies responded to the 100 block of Cresent Avenue regarding a possible child abuse incident. Deputies detained a male at the location. After a thorough investigation, Cesar Olivares, 34 of Pomona, California was arrested on suspicion of Cruelty to a Child.
June 7
• Deputy personnel performed targeted traffic enforcement of electric, non-street legal, dirt bikes near the intersection of Metropole and Beacon Avenue. Several vehicle stops were initiated, and the riders were cited for operating an unregistered vehicle on a public street.
- Deputy personnel responded to the 300 block of Cresent Avenue regarding a male banging on the glass of a store front. When deputy personnel arrived, they saw a male banging on the window and yelling incoherently at the employees inside. After determining the suspect was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage(s), and unsuccessfully trying to locate a friend or family member to care for him, Noel Arenal, 47 of Glendale was arrested on suspicion of Public Intoxication.
- Deputies responded to Avalon Canyon Road near Joe Machado Field regarding golfcarts playing excessively loud music. Several individuals were warned and advised that it is a violation of the California Vehicle Code to amplify music from any vehicle on a public street which can be heard 50 feet or more feet away.
June 8
- A deputy responded to the Descanso Beach Club regarding a man seen swimming naked. After a vigilant and thorough search, the deputy was unable to locate the naked swimmer. Better luck next time …
June 9
• Deputies responded to the 200 block of Clarrissa Avenue regarding a disturbing the peace call. When deputies arrived, a male exited from a second-floor apartment and approached them. The male immediately became confrontational and asked if they were there to arrest him. The deputies unsuccessfully asked him to keep the noise down and return to his residence. After determining he was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and unable to care for himself, Ruben Mulgado, 41 of Avalon was arrested for Public Intoxication.
- Deputy personnel concentrated on traffic enforcement on Pebbly Beach Road using radar-laser speed detector (Lidar).
June 10
- Deputy personnel concentrated on traffic and pedestrian enforcement on Cresent Avenue.
June 11
- Deputy personnel concentrated on traffic enforcement on Pebbly Beach Road using radar-laser speed detector (Lidar).
June 12
- Deputies responded and investigated a vehicle vs. bicycle collision near the intersection of Cresent Avenue and Marilla Avenue. The bicycle rider was treated for injuries by medical personnel.
- Deputies worked foot beats on Crescent Avenue to ensure the safety and security of the public, and increased traffic enforcement near Sumner Avenue and Beacon Street.
