The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the period of June 5 to June 15.

“It is important to note that no assumption of criminal guilt or affiliation should be drawn from the content of the information provided in this report.  Many people who get arrested do not get convicted or even charged with crimes for which they have been arrested,” said Capt. Doug Fetteroll, commander of the Station.

Exemplary Service Award

On June 15, 2016, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department recognized several employees for their distinguished and exemplary conduct during the past year.  One of the recipients was Law Enforcement Technician Hugh Carson. Sheriff Jim McDonnell presented Carson with the Department’s Exemplary Service Award.

The award acknowledges those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service, commitment and leadership to effect positive change.

Capt. Fetteroll said, “Hugh does an amazing job for our community and it was nice to see him get recognized for his efforts.”  Hugh’s wife Stacy and his daughter Marianne attended the ceremony in support of Hugh.

June 5

• An Avalon resident reported being the victim of domestic violence. The incident is under investigation.

• At 4:32 p.m., Eduardo Mulgado, 18, an Avalon resident, was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a knife.

June 6

• At 5:40 a.m., Celestina Ruezgablack, 20, an Avalon resident, was cited on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after she was involved in a single car accident on Casino Way.

June 7

• An Avalon resident reported her wedding ring was stolen from her residence in the 200 block of Descanso Street during the month of May.

• At 6 p.m., Elijah Ostler, 28, a resident of Utah, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public.

June 8

• At 2:45 p.m., Kevin Carey, 36, an Avalon resident, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

June 9

• No significant incidents.

• No significant incidents.

June 11

• A business in the 200 block of Crescent Avenue accepted a $20 bill from a customer that was believed to be counterfeit.

June 12

• The Santa Catalina Island Fund Annual Awards Dinner was a resounding success and we salute all of this year’s graduating seniors.

• No significant incidents.

June 14

• An Avalon resident reported a violation of a court order.

• An Avalon resident reported being the victim of a cyber-crime in May.

June 15

• An Avalon resident reported the front license plate was stolen off his vehicle while it was parked in the 300 block of Sumner Avenue.

• At 8:50 a.m., Matthew Garcia, 24, an Avalon resident, was arrested on suspicion of a misdemeanor warrant.
