Sheriff’s Log: June 19 to June 25

Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of June 19 to June 25, 2019. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

June 19

• Deputies arrested Sonya Garcia of Long Beach on suspicion of being under the influence of an illegal stimulant (an opiate) and a parole violation. The arrest occurred near float #5 on Pebbly Beach Road.

• Deputies arrested Christian Gamboa of Avalon on suspicion of possessing cocaine, and being under the influence of a controlled substance (a stimulant). The arrest occurred in the 200 block of Marilla Avenue.

June 20

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a fight call. They contacted a victim who reported he had been assaulted by a named suspect. Deputies are conducting the investigation and an arrest is pending.

June 21

• Deputies responded to Beacon Street and Catalina Avenue regarding an intoxicated person passed out. Deputies arrived and arrested Santos Rivera of Avalon for allegedly being so drunk that he passed out in the alley.

June 22

• Deputies arrested Isaac Rios of Avalon based on a $10,000 arrest warrant. The warrant was for allegedly obstructing a police officer. The arrest occurred near Lover’s Cove.

June 23

• Deputies received a call of a burglary at the Two Harbors Boat Yard. Someone stole items (fishing lures, outboard motor, dive light).

Some of the stolen items were recovered near the shoreline.

• Deputies responded to 1 Cabrillo Drive regarding a vandalism call. Someone broke the window to a vehicle with a rock. The investigation is ongoing.

• Deputies arrested Alonha Smith of Las Vegas on suspicion of stealing clothes from a business in the 200 block of Crescent Avenue. Further investigation revealed certain members of her family were also stealing clothes. They will also be charged.

June 24

• Deputies issued four male adults citations on Chimes Tower Road for drinking alcohol in public. They will have court dates in the near future.

June 25

• Deputies received a call that a golf cart was over the embankment near Country Club Drive behind Tremont Hall. When the deputies arrived, there were no occupants in the area.

Safety Note

Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) came to Catalina Island and conducted inspections of several licensed establishments. ABC Officers issued a citation to an underage customer drinking at one of the restaurants. They also provided warnings and educational information for other violations.
