The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of July 6 to July 12, 2023.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

July 6

  • Deputies responded to a business disturbance on the 300 block of Crescent Avenue. The caller stated 2 customers were attempting to use a fake ID. The deputies contacted the manager who handed them 2 ID cards. One ID card was legit and the other was bogus. The deputies spoke to the man and returned his ID to him. The man was over 21 and his ID card was official.

However, the 2nd ID belonged to the man’s female date who fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival.

When the man was asked about his date, he all of a sudden developed amnesia and knew nothing about the woman. The young man left the location in search of his companion.

July 7

  • A deputy and a sergeant responded to Hamilton Cove regarding a disturbance. The caller stated 4 females and 2 males were arguing with security because they were being kicked out of their vacation rental. Upon arrival, the deputies observed the parties and began speaking with them as well as the security staff. During their conversation, one of the females began yelling at the deputy and the sergeant stating she paid for the condo and they could never afford anything that nice.

They told the woman how proud they were of her and that she must be extremely successful. They also advised the party their female friend was extremely drunk and needed their care. They agreed and took the woman away in a golf cart.

July 8

  • Deputies responded to the 200 block of Crescent Avenue regarding a grand theft. The caller stated his $7000 camera was stolen. A theft report was written and the case was immediately investigated due to their being video surveillance of the suspect. The following morning the victim located the suspect at the Mole and confronted him. The man said he found the camera and had it at his brother’s home. The camera was recovered and the man was identified by Detective Meyers. The case will be submitted to the DA for filing consideration.

July 9

  • Deputies assisted 2 families with child custody exchanges. The deputies stood by to ensure there was no arguing and the parents were civil to each other.

July 10

  • Deputies responded to 4 locations in town regarding a male adult in his 60s causing problems at local businesses and making employees feel uncomfortable.

The deputies contacted him each time and warned him although his conduct had not yet risen to the criminal level he was extremely close. They also advised the man numerous businesses had filed Letters of Agency against him and he would be arrested each time he entered. The deputies asked the man how long he planned on staying in Avalon. He left the Island on July 12th.

July 11

  • Deputies responded to a business disturbance on the 200 block of Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a group of 5 people were harassing customers and arguing with employees. The disturbing parties were located by Deputy McCloud and one of them appeared to have enjoyed himself a little too much at the local drinking establishments.

The group of rebel rousers started off a bit rude until one of them said Deputy McCloud looked like he just tried out at the NFL Combine. Deputy McCloud was extremely nice and funny with the party and urged them to return to their cruise ship so they could resume their festivities. They all hugged the deputy and thanked him for being so cool.

July 12

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 100 block of Maiden Lane. The informant said a female was yelling inside one of the rooms. The deputies contacted the disturbing parties and determined the woman was really drunk and the man was really sober.

The couple was extremely cooperative and the man knew he was in for a long evening. There was no crime at the location and the couple agreed to keep the noise down.

July 13

  • Avalon Station Day Shift personnel conducted pedestrian traffic enforcement on Pebbly Road and Crescent Avenue due to a cruise ship being in port. They were able to effectively divert pedestrians to the crosswalks and sidewalks and keep them off the roadway. They will continue enforcements efforts on cruise ship days to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.
