Sheriff’s Log: July 30 to Aug. 5.

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of July 30 to Aug. 5. “It is important to note that no assumption of criminal guilt or affiliation should be drawn from the content of the information provided in this report. Many people who get arrested do not get convicted or even charged with crimes for which they have been arrested,” said Capt. Doug Fetteroll, commander of the Station.

July 30

July 30

• Deputies conducted a covert operation designed to catch people stealing personal items from golf carts.

No arrests were made.

July 31

• No significant incidents.

August 1

• In response to numerous citizens’ complaints, deputies conducted a traffic enforcement operation at the intersection of Beacon Street and Descanso Avenue.

Three citations and two warnings were issued to people who failed to stop for a posted stop sign.

August 2

• Brandon Gonzalez, M/22, a resident of Visalia, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after driving his golf cart into a patrol deputy on a bicycle.

The deputy was not injured.

• Deputies cited two additional motorists for failing to stop before entering the intersection at Beacon Street and Descanso Avenue.

• Two Avalon residents were reportedly involved in a fight near Eucalyptus Gardens.

Neither party was injured or desirous of prosecution.  

August 3

• An Avalon resident reported being the victim of terrorist threats on Beacon Street.

August 4

• An Avalon resident drove his golf cart into a parked vehicle near the intersection of Clarissa Avenue and Tremont Street.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

• Luis Tamayo, M/30, a resident of Avalon, was arrested for making terrorist threats on August 3, 2014.  

August 5

• Judy Nicholson, F/61, a resident of Two Harbors, was arrested at the Isthmus Plaza for drunk in public.

• Deputies participated in National Night Out by disseminating crime prevention information on Crescent Avenue.

McGruff the Crime Dog made an appearance to say hi to all the kids and encourage everyone to take a bite out of crime by reporting suspicious or criminal activity.

Our number one goal is to maximize public safety for residents and visitors alike.

As part of our approach to keeping Avalon as one of the safest cities in Los Angeles County, we will continue to enforce drunk driving laws and conduct traffic enforcement operations to help reduce the risk of accidents and injuries.
