The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of July 25 to July 31, 2024. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
July 25
- Deputies responded to Pebbly Beach Road for a disturbance involving juveniles. The caller stated 2 juvies were throwing rocks at people and vehicles passing by.
The deputies located the youngsters and let them explain their actions.
The boys said they were not throwing rocks because that was wrong. They insisted they were merely throwing their leftover pizza crust. The boys cried foul and said they were feeding the fowl.
July 26
- Deputies responded to Catalina Avenue for a vehicle illegally parked. The caller stated a rental golf cart was parked in the middle of the street. The deputies arrived, located the illegally parked vehicle and spoke to the driver. The driver was offered 2 choices, #1 please move your vehicle and #2 please sign here and the yellow copy was his to keep. He chose #1.
July 27
- A sergeant on patrol observed 2 juveniles standing near a local restaurant. The sergeant contacted the 2 young men and issued them citations for being out after curfew.
- A deputy on patrol conducted a traffic stop on Casino Way. The driver was issued a citation for driving without a license.
- Deputies responded to a fight call at the Mole. Upon arriving the deputies located 3 men who appeared to be yelling at each other and getting ready to fight.
One of the men was observed by a deputy walking down Front Street and intentionally bumping into pedestrians prior to this incident. They conducted an investigation and while speaking to the men, they observed one of them appeared to be drunk.
They spoke to the man who told them he had consumed 35 beers.
Jose Hernandez, 29, of Pomona, was arrested and booked at Avalon Station on suspicion of public intoxication.
July 28
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Avalon Canyon Road.
The caller stated his roommate was harassing him. The deputies arrived at the location and saw a man standing outside the residence.
They spoke to the man and asked him what he was doing.
The man said his roommate was spying on him and he was moving out all of his roommate’s stuff.
Christopher George, 37, of Avalon, was detained and arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.
He was booked at Avalon Station.
July 30
- Deputies on foot patrol observed numerous cruise ship passengers smoking marijuana on Front Street.
They contacted the smokers and advised them it was illegal to smoke marijuana in public.
They replied, weed is legal and we smoke it in public in LA.
The were politely reminded they were not in LA and they would be issued a ticket if they continued smoking.
They decided to put their blunt out and avoid a citation.
