The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the period of July 21 to July 27.

National Night Out

National Night Out
On Tuesday, Aug. 2, Avalon Sheriff’s Station personnel will participate in this national event.
This is a community event that is held to remind people about the importance of crime prevention as a means to reducing crime. Along with dispersing crime prevention information, it is rumored that McGruff the Crime Dog will be here in Avalon to help take a bite out of crime.
Golf cart theft update
One golf cart was taken this week without the owners’ permission.
The golf cart was located by the owner a few hours later in the same location it was taken from.
July 21
• A temporary worker on the island reported being the victim of a battery at Button Shell Cove.
• A resident of Avalon reported her backpack was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 100 block of Catalina Avenue.
• A visitor to the island reported his unattended dive equipment was stolen from Casino Point.
• A visitor to the island reported her jewelry was stolen from her unattended beach bag while she was swimming at Middle Beach.
July 22
• A business at Two Harbors reportedly received a counterfeit $20 bill.
July 23
• At 5 p.m., Alfredo Cisneros, 34, an Avalon resident, was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats.
July 24
• At 12:30 a.m., a resident of Los Angeles, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public. (Editor’s note: The charges were later dropped and there is no current legal action pending against the individual in this matter.)
• At 9:45 a.m., Matthew Jones, 41, an Avalon resident was arrested on suspicion of an alleged assault.
July 25
• No significant incidents.
July 26
• At 3:15 p.m., Alon Steinman, 64, a visitor to the island and a parolee, was arrested at Two Harbors on suspicion of a parole violation.
July 27
• An Avalon resident reported being the victim of theft by access card.
• An Avalon resident reported her bicycle was stolen from the 400 block of Avalon Canyon Road.
• At 7:15 p.m., Selina Reyes, 27, a resident of Moreno Valley and Christopher Carrasco, 26, a resident of Ontario, were arrested on suspicion of alleged assaults.
