Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Jan. 23 to Jan. 29, 2019.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
January 23
• Deputies arrested Dutch Mufasia of Avalon on suspicion of lewd conduct in the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. A resident placed him under private person’s arrest.
January 24
• Deputies and the fire department responded to 334 Triana Lane regarding a minor natural gas leak. Southern California Edison responded and fixed the problem.
January 25
• Deputies received a call regarding an illegally parked vehicle blocking another vehicle in the 100 block of Catalina Avenue. The illegally parked vehicle was moved before the deputies arrived.
January 26
• Deputies arrested John Storm of Costa Mesa on suspicion of domestic violence in the 120 block of Sumner Avenue.
January 27
• Deputies responded to the 500 block of Crescent Avenue regarding two females arguing. Deputies determined no criminal laws had been violated and the females went their separate ways.
January 28
• A visitor reported he lost his phone near the Botanical Gardens. Deputies tracked the phone to the cruise ship that was leaving Avalon Harbor. The Avalon Harbor Department drove the deputies to the cruise ship. The phone was found and returned to the owner.
January 29
• Deputies responded to Beacon Street and Sumner Avenue regarding a traffic collision. One of the motorists suffered a minor injury and went to the hospital.

Please remember not to fall for phone or internet scams. If you are sending large quantities of money overseas to people you have never met, it is most likely a scam. The reason for the amount of money requested does not matter. Stop and think before you send it. If you have any questions regarding scams, contact the Sheriff’s Department before sending any money.
