Sheriff’s Log: Feb. 17 to Feb. 23, 2022

Editor’s note: The fol­low­­­ing is the Avalon Sheriff’s Sta­tion significant incidents report for the period of Feb. 17 to Feb. 23, 2022.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

February 17

• Deputies responded to a suspicious person call on Catalina Avenue.

The caller stated a male adult was possibly living in a golf cart. The deputies arrived, contacted the man and conducted an investigation. They determined the man had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Tulare County for Spousal Battery. They also discovered the suspect was in possession of methamphetamine. Marcos Rodriguez, 29, of Avalon, was arrested and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

• Deputies and the Fire Departments responded to the rescue dock for a medical emergency call.

A male adult was in full cardiac arrest and was being treated by the fire departments.

• Deputies received a juvenile disturbance call on the 300 block of Treemont Street. The caller stated numerous juveniles were shooting gummy balls at his golf cart.

The deputies contacted the juveniles and advised them to shoot at targets only. They advised them of the dangers of shooting near homes, residents and vehicles.

• A resident called Avalon Sheriff’s Station to report a vicious animal running loose on Whittley Avenue.

The caller stated a white pit bull was running loose and she was afraid it would enter her yard.

The deputies checked the location and were unable to locate the loose canine.

• Deputies received a disturbance call at a restaurant on Crescent Avenue.

The caller stated a 23-year-old female was following and harassing him and his friends.

Deputies contacted the disturbing party and advised her to stop harassing children or she could face being arrested. She left the location after being spoken to by deputies.

• Deputies received a disturbance call on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue.

The caller stated a female was yelling at 3 people in front of the location. The caller also stated it was the same female who was yelling at the juveniles 1 hour earlier. Deputies arrived at the location and could hear the female yelling at someone inside the store, cursing at them and challenging them to a fight. The deputies detained the female and ultimately arrested Haley McBrain, 23, of Mission Viejo, on suspicion of disturbing the peace. She was transported and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

February 18

• Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. The caller stated three to four males and females were arguing at the location and one of the females was lying on the ground.

Upon arrival, the deputies saw the female being helped up from the ground by her friends. Once off the ground she pushed her friends away and tried to walk on her own.

While walking she immediately fell to the ground almost striking her head on a cement pillar. The deputies approached and identified themselves. The suspect began cursing at them stating she did not care who they were. The deputies conducted an investigation and determined the suspect was drunk in public. Susanna Amaro-Gutierrez, 24, of Avalon, was arrested, transported and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

• Deputies responded to a fight call involving 10 people on Sumner Avenue.

The deputies arrived and contacted numerous individuals who had been drinking and involved in an altercation.

All the parties were non desirous of any police report and stated everything was fine.

February 19

• Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 200 block of Crescent Avenue.

The caller stated a male was yelling and refusing to leave the location.

Deputies arrived and contacted a female adult who stated she had a verbal argument with her drunk boyfriend.

The drunk man had left the location prior to the deputies’ arrival, and they determined no crime had been committed.

The female said she would avoid her boyfriend until he sobered up.

• Deputies and the Fire Departments responded to a medical emergency on Silver Peak Trail. A female adult hiker was suffering from a cardiac event.

February 20

• Deputies and the Fire Departments responded to a medical emergency at the Dive Park. The caller stated a diver was in distress.

The fire departments treated the diver and determined he was OK.

February 21

• Deputies responded to a family disturbance on the 300 block of Whittley Avenue.

The caller stated a father and daughter were arguing at the location. The deputies contacted the family and warned them regarding their behavior.

They were cooperative and agreed to stop yelling at each other.
