Sheriff’s Log: Feb. 10 to Feb. 16, 2022

Editor’s note: The fol­low­­­ing is the Avalon Sheriff’s Sta­tion significant incidents report for the period of Feb. 10 to Feb. 16, 2022.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

February 10

• Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. The caller stated there were 6 or more people being loud inside a hotel room. The deputies contacted the disturbing parties and advised them they were being too loud and had too many guests inside their room.

They cooperated and shut down the party.

• Deputies received a call of someone fishing in an unauthorized area near Abalone point. The deputies checked the area and were unable to locate any Fish and Game violators.

• Deputies received a disturbance call on the 300 block of East Whittley Avenue.

The caller stated a male and female were arguing and throwing objects.

The deputies contacted both parties at the location and determined no crimes had been committed.

The man and woman were arguing with each other over a vape pen.

• Deputies received a disturbance call involving a boyfriend and a girlfriend at a hotel on Chimes Tower Road.

The informant on the call stated he wanted his 23 year old girlfriend to leave his room.

Upon arrival the deputies contacted the female girlfriend who stated she would rent another room because her boyfriend enjoyed too much sunshine and alcohol during the day.

February 12

• Deputies responded to a business disturbance call on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue.

The caller stated a male adult was drunk and refusing to leave the location.

The deputies contacted the alleged drunk man and determined no crime had been committed. He left the area without incident.

February 13

• Deputies received a disturbance call on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. The informant stated a male was throwing signs around the location.

The deputies contacted the male and determined it was a business disturbance only.

• An informant called the sheriff’s station and stated a customer was refusing to return his rented golf cart.

The tardy renter was located near the Buffalo Nickel and returned his golf cart without incident.

February 14

• A male adult came to the Sheriff’s Station lobby requesting a police report because he had lost his boat tickets.

The man did not know if his tickets were stolen or if he had lost them. The case is under investigation.

• Deputies responded to a disturbance at a hotel on the 100 block of Whittley Avenue.

The caller stated a couple was arguing inside their hotel room.

Deputies contacted the couple and determined the father was yelling at his children who were misbehaving. There was no evidence of any crimes at the location.

February 15

• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a female walking up and down the hallway banging on doors and windows. The deputies contacted the woman and she left the location upon their request.

• Deputies working patrol were walking towards the Sheriff’s Station lobby.

While walking they were being followed by a female adult who demanded they let her talk to her estranged husband.

The deputies told her to have a seat in the lobby and step away from them.

The woman refused and stood near the deputies as they opened the station’s front door.

The deputies again told her to sit down and step away from them so they could enter the station.

The woman again refused and attempted to follow the deputies into the secured area of the Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies could smell alcohol on the woman’s breath and detained her pending a public intoxication investigation Nichole Costello, 43, of Avalon, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public. She was booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.
