Sheriff’s Log: Dec. 26, 2018 to Jan. 1, 2019

Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Dec. 26, 2018 to Jan. 1, 2019.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

December 26, 2018

• Deputies arrested Amanda Cervantes from Avalon on suspicion of allegedly possessing narcotic paraphernalia at Beacon Street and Metropole Avenue.

December 27, 2018

• Deputies arrested Eric Flodman from Fernley, Nevada, on suspicion of drunk driving in the 100 block of Sumner Avenue.

December 28, 2018

• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Catalina Avenue regarding an assault call.

Deputies arrested Joshua Matthews of Escondido on suspicion of intentionally pouring a pitcher of water on a 13-year-old stranger, while in a restaurant.

December 29, 2018

• Deputies issued three citations to adult Avalon residents for smoking marijuana in public.

The incident occurred in the 100 block of Crescent Avenue.

December 30, 2018

• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a stolen backpack.

Deputies were able to locate the backpack and return it to the owner.

The backpack had not been stolen.

December 31, 2018

• Deputies are conducting an investigation after a motorist was involved in a traffic collision at Lover’s Cove.

The motorist crashed through a guardrail, was ejected from the golf cart, and the golf cart went into the ocean. Numerous broken beer bottles were found at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

January 1, 2019

• Deputies arrested Jessica Marical of Avalon on suspicion of being drunk in public after she was reportedly involved in a fight in the 100 block of Sumner Avenue.
