Sheriff’s Log: Dec. 21 to Dec. 27, 2023

Avalon Sheriff's Station.

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Dec. 21 to Dec. 27, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted,

December 21

  • Deputies concentrated on motorcycle traffic enforcement near Clarrisa Avenue and Beacon Street. Enforcement concentrated on helmet laws, speeding, and failure to stop at stop signs.
  • Deputies responded to the 200 block of Clarrisa Avenue regarding a loud party in the backyard of a residence. After talking to the deputies, the group decided to call at night and agreed to be more considerate to the neighbors.

December 22

  • Deputy personnel loaded 3 helicopters filled with toys in Long Beach and flew over with Santa to deliver the toys to the boys and girls on the island. Once again, the Grinch attempted to steal the toys once we landed. Luckily, Deputy Lovvik was on-scene and chased the Grinch into the ocean. Detectives are working on the case diligently, but we don’t expect too much activity until possibly next holiday season.
  • Deputy personnel responded with the 200 block of Clemente Avenue regarding a possible medical emergency. An Apple Watch had alerted us of a possible medical emergency. After discovering the owner of the Apple Watch asleep at the location with no apparent medical emergency, deputies advised the owner to remain calm while wearing overly anxious personal electronics.

December 23

  • Deputies worked foot beats and vehicle patrols of Crescent Avenue to ensure the safety and security of the public, and increased traffic enforcement in the area of Crescent Avenue and Beacon Street.
  • Due to the power outage, Deputy Personnel increased patrol checks in the areas affected through the night.

December 24

  • Deputies worked foot beats on Crescent Avenue to ensure the safety and security of the public, and increased traffic enforcement near Sumner Avenue and Beacon Street.

December 25

  • Deputy personnel responded to the area of the 100 block of Catalina Avenue regrading two males who appeared to be intoxicated trying to start a green golfcart. When they arrived, two males matching the description were located near a green golfcart. They were both warned and advised of the dangers of drinking and driving. After talking with the deputies, the two males quickly decided it was a nice night to walk home and get some fresh air.
  • A deputy responded to a business dispute call near the 600 block of Crescent Avenue. The informant stated a customer was yelling and refusing to leave. The deputy spoke to the upset customer and listened to his concerns. After determining no crime had occurred, the customer was advised of the company’s complaint policy. The customer decided rather than stand there yelling at the business, a better course of action was to file a complaint. The customer left the location without further incident.

December 26

  • A deputy responded to the 300 block of Descanso Avenue regarding a vehicle plugged into a house without permission. The deputy contacted the alleged electricity thief and the informant. It was then determined the two parties were actually close acquaintances, and the informant was no longer desirous of filing a report. Both parties were encouraged to communicate prior to using the other’s utilities.

December 27

  • Deputy personnel conducted traffic enforcement of Avalon Canyon Road.
