Sheriff’s Log: Dec. 2 to Dec. 8, 2021

Editor’s note: The fol­low­­­ing is the Avalon Sheriff’s Sta­tion significant incidents report for the week of Dec. 2 to Dec. 8, 2021.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

December 2

• Deputies responded to the 200 block of Tremont Street regarding a fight in progress. When deputies arrived at the location the disturbing parties had left the location and were unable to be located.

• Deputies responded the 300 block of Tremont Street regarding a disturbance between a boyfriend and girlfriend. The informant stated her boyfriend keeps taking her golf cart without permission. The deputies contacted both parties and advised them of vehicle theft laws. They also counseled them regarding their relationship.

December 3

• Deputies were summoned to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a female crying and stating she wanted to hurt herself. Deputies contacted the female who stated she did not want to hurt herself and that she would seek treatment if she needed it.

• Avalon Station received a call of juveniles throwing eggs at a resident’s home. The deputies responded to the location and determined there was no physical damage to the residence. The informant stated he knew who the disturbing parties were and that he would notify the property management company.

December 4

• Deputies were contacted by the US Coast Guard and responded to “Toyon Bay” regarding a fishing vessel which had run ashore. The informant stated the boat was on the rocky shore line and possibly had a deceased person on board. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a deceased male adult on board. The case is under further investigation.

• Deputies were flagged down by a tourist regarding a deceased dear on Avalon Canyon Road. Deputies and Code Enforcement checked the area and were unable to locate any injured deer.

• Deputies with the Fire Departments responded to the “Dive Park” regarding a male yelling that he couldn’t breathe. Deputies along with the fire departments contacted a 54 year old male and transported to Catalina Island Medical Center for further evaluation.

December 5

• Avalon Station received a call of loud music on Tremont Street. Deputies contacted several people at the location and warned them regarding noise ordinance laws. The disturbing parties were very cooperative and agreed to lower the music.

December 6

• Deputies responded to “Descanso Beach” regarding an audible alarm going off. Deputies found an open door at the location and a suspicious male standing nearby. Deputies detained the male and conducted an investigation. The deputies determined nothing had been burglarized from the location. However, they determined the suspicious male had numerous outstanding arrest warrants for the crime of battery totaling $115,000. Based on the warrants, the deputies placed Marcos Rodriguez, 29, of Avalon, under arrest and booked him at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

• Deputies responded to “Sol Vista” regarding loose dogs running in the complex. Upon arrival deputies contacted the informant on the call and the dog’s owner. The deputies spoke to both parties and advised them of the dangers of loose dogs and the responsibility of the owner to secure the animals.

December 7

• A call came into Avalon Station regarding a male and female arguing from an apartment on the 300 block of Sumner Avenue. Deputies responded to the location and were unable to locate or hear any disturbance in the area.

December 8

• Deputies were called to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a disturbing party refusing to leave a business. Deputies contacted a male adult who left the location upon request and escorted him to his hotel.

• An informant called Avalon Station regarding an explosion heard in the dumpster area of Tremont Street. Avalon Fire responded along with deputies. There were no signs of any crime in the area.
