Avalon Sheriff's Station.

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Dec. 18, 2024, to Jan.-1, 2025. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

December 18

  • Deputies responded to Clarissa Avenue for a golf cart that was parked facing the wrong direction. The deputies located the golf cart which was legally parked and in observance of all posted signs including street sweeping. No need for a ticket.

December 20

  • Deputies responded to a burglar alarm call on Upper Terrace. The alarm was activated by the interior motion detector. The deputies checked the location and there was no evidence of entry or anyone inside. I am not a believer in ghosts, but this might be a new stop on the Catalina Ghost Tour.

December 24

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Chimes Tower Road. The caller stated there was arguing coming from a hotel room. The deputies contacted a man and woman at the location who stated they were just arguing. There was no evidence of any crime, so the deputies left.
  • Deputies responded to Chimes Tower Road for another disturbance call at the same hotel room. The deputies arrived and spoke to the same couple. Once again, there was no crime committed, and the couple was only arguing. The deputies reminded the couple it would be Christmas in 30 minutes, Santa was on his way and he was gonna find out who’s naughty or nice. The deputies left and were not called back.

December 25

  • One hour after leaving Chimes Tower Road, deputies responded to a hotel on Crescent Avenue for a disturbance call. The informant stated there was arguing coming from a hotel room. The deputies contacted a man and woman who admitted to arguing with each other. The couple was counseled and advised they would receive a bag of coal if they didn’t behave.

December 28

  • Deputies responded to the “Mole” for a vandalism report call. The informant stated someone tagged the men’s restroom stall with their moniker using a black marker. The graffiti was removed and a report was written. Not sure why one would choose a bathroom stall as his canvass.
  • Deputies responded to Pebbly Beach to investigate why a large tent was set up on the beach at night. They contacted three men who told deputies they were shark fishing. They explained their theory on catching the big one under the cover of night.
  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Country Club Drive. The caller stated a man and woman were arguing in one of the hotel rooms. The deputies contacted the woman who stated she was arguing with her boyfriend regarding airline she had purchased for them to return to Utah. During the argument, her boyfriend grabbed her by the arm. The man was arrested for alleged spousal assault and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

December 29

  • Deputies responded to Sheep Shoot Road for hikers in distress. The hikers called and stated they were trying to walk back to Little Harbor and a bison would not let them pass. The hikers were driven back to Little Harbor and reminded the animals are bigger and do live in the interior.

December 31

  • A sergeant responded to a disturbance on Eucalyptus Ave. The caller stated a man was flying a drone and she was concerned what he was recording. The sergeant spoke to the drone pilot who was a young man enjoying his new Christmas present. The sergeant shared his conversation with the informant and ensured her there was no criminal activity. He wished the woman a Happy New Year and left the location.
