The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Dec. 14 to Dec. 20, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted,
December 14
- Deputies responded to the Green Pleasure Pier regarding a disturbance call. The informant described a man in a mixed color suit who was possibly drunk. The deputies were able to locate the man due to his poor taste in clothing. They contacted the man and it was obvious he was celebrating the holidays a little early this year and indulging in too much spiked eggnog. Eleven McNally, 25, of Texas was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public. He was booked at Avalon Station.
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 300 block of Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a woman who was possibly drunk had fallen into the water and was arguing with 3 men on the beach. The deputies contacted the parties and determined no crimes had been committed. They advised the woman it was not the smartest idea to practice her polar plunge at 10:30 at night.
December 15
- Deputies conducted foot patrols of Hermit Gulch campground during the late night hours. They were looking for a suspect who continually trespasses at the location. The man was not at the campground during the checks and avoided being arrested.
December 16
- A deputy and a sergeant responded to a disturbance call at the Mole. The caller stated a man on the incoming Express boat was harassing a family. They contacted the family and the disturbing party. They determined no crimes had been committed and the man was a little different. The sergeant escorted the family off the boat and drove them to their vacation rental. The deputy warned the man if his behavior escalated while on the island, he would be spending the night in Avalon’s jail.
December 17
- Deputies responded to the 200 block of Catalina Avenue for a parking violation. The caller stated a golf cart was parked in the loading zone. The deputies responded with their ticket book in hand and luckily for the driver, the cart was already gone and no longer illegally parked.
- Deputies responded to the 200 block of Descanso Avenue for a loud music disturbance call. The informant stated a large white van was parked on the wrong side of the street and playing loud music. The deputies contacted the man who recognized his poor judgment and parked the vehicle legally.
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Clarissa Avenue. The informant said people on the top deck of a rental were being very loud. The deputies arrived and located the partygoers. The deputies being ambassadors for the island, encouraged the visitors to enjoy themselves and reminded them it was 11:30 at night and some people were trying to sleep because they had to work and were not on vacation. The group was very cooperative and went inside for the evening.
December 18
- Deputies responded to a trespassing call at Descanso Beach. The caller stated a man was trespassing and sleeping in one of the beach cabanas. This was the same suspect who had been reportedly trespassing at the campground. The deputies arrived, located the man who they know from prior contacts and arrested him on suspicion of trespassing. Luis Gutierrez, 36, of Avalon was booked at Avalon Station.
