Sheriff’s Log: Aug. 8 to Aug. 14, 2024

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Aug. 8 to Aug. 14, 2024. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

August 15

  • Deputies were contacted at the Sheriff’s station by a victim who said he was assaulted on Crescent Avenue. The case is being investigated by Detective Meyers.
  • Deputies responded to a burglary alarm at Rancho Escondido. They checked the perimeter of the location and it appeared secure.
  • Deputies responded to a disturbance at Hermit Gulch. The caller stated a man was walking around the campground bothering other campers. The deputies contacted the man and advised him they would tolerate him disturbing others. He quickly scampered towards town.

August 16

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance on Country Club Drive. The caller stated a man and woman were arguing in one of the rooms. The deputies contacted the disturbing parties and determined no crime had been committed other than being rude to their neighbors. They agreed to bring it down a few decibels.

August 17

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a man with a flower shirt on exposed himself inside the store. The deputies reviewed video footage and determined the man had urinated on numerous clothing items while inside the store. A sergeant and deputy located the man and questioned him regarding what they saw on video. The man admitted to urinating on the clothes because he couldn’t find a toilet. The disgusting man was detained and agreed to pay the store for the damages he caused. Once his debt was settled, he was escorted to the next departing ferry.
  • Deputies and Harbor patrol responded to a domestic violence in progress call at Hamilton Cove harbor. The caller stated a man was assaulting a woman on the boat. The deputies contacted the victim and confirmed a crime had been committed. The deputies made sure the victim was safe and attempted to contact the suspect on his boat. The suspect refused to talk to the deputies and fled the location in his boat with two 300’s on the back. While fleeing the location, the suspect damaged the mooring ball. The suspect is known and will be charged with domestic violence and felony vandalism. It’s just a matter of time before the long arm of the law reaches out to him Overtown.

August 18

  • Deputies responded to a juvenile disturbance at the fuel dock. Harbor patrol stated several juvies were jumping off the fuel dock and refusing to leave. They were contacted by deputies and decided it would be a great idea to leave.

August 20

  • Deputies responded to Tremont Street For a possible theft call. The case is being investigated by detectives.

August 21

  • Deputies responded to a family disturbance call on Sumner Avenue. The caller stated a man had hit a woman at the location. The deputies contacted the couple and conducted an investigation. The woman stated her and her boyfriend were only arguing and they never got physical. There was no signs of injury or any evidence of an assault.
