Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of April 3 to April 9, 2019.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
April 3
• A Good Samaritan found a lost 8-year-old and brought him to the Sheriff’s station. Deputies were able to locate his grandmother by calling his mother and obtaining the grandmother’s telephone number.
Deputies conducted a child abuse investigation and ultimately arrested Michael Newman of Avalon on suspicion of child abuse.
April 4
• Deputies arrested Alison Murphy, of Sandpoint, Idaho, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated which resulted in the passenger falling out of the golf cart and getting injured.
April 5
• A person lost her cell phone and came to the Sheriff’s Station to report the lost phone. Deputies used the “Find My iPhone” app and located the phone in a residence off Wrigley Road and Clemente Avenue.
April 6
• Deputies arrested Edgar Martinez, of Los Angeles, in the 200 block of Crescent Avenue on suspicion of assault, being drunk in public, and he had three warrants for his arrest, $20,000, $15,000, and $5,000.
April 7
• Deputies responded to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a fight call. Deputies learned there was not an actual fight, but only a loud argument between friends. No criminal laws were violated.
April 8
• A motorist reported she was driving near the Avalon gas station when another vehicle collided into her vehicle. She drove to the Avalon Sheriff’s Station to report the incident.
April 9
• An Avalon resident reported to the deputies that she lost her vehicle’s registration. She believes it flew out of her vehicle while she was driving.
Safety Note
Remember, it is illegal to feed the deer on the island. Due to the recent rains, they are currently eating vegetation on the island.
