The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period April 25 to May 1, 2024.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
April 26
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call at the Mole. The caller stated a man was arguing with the captain on the boat. The deputies contacted both parties and determined the passenger was loud and rude from his own admission. He stated that tone was his normal behavior and he would be quiet on the ride back home.
- Deputies observed a golf cart driving on front street at 8 p.m. on a busy Friday night. They stopped the vehicle and issued the driver a citation. The driver was unaware she could not drive on Front Street and did not see any signs. A brief island driving tutorial was given along with a ticket.
April 27
- Deputies responded to Step Beach for a report of flares being set off. The deputies conducted an investigation and determined it was a gender reveal party only and no flares had been fired off. My guess is the happy couple is having a baby girl and the gender reveal had a little more red dye than pink.
April 28
- Deputies responded to a trespassing call on Clemente Ave. The caller accused Luis Gutierrez, 36, of Avalon, of trespassing in his backyard and BBQing. When the deputies arrived, the suspect had already fled from the location. A short time later, the deputies located the suspect on Beacon Street and Clemente Ave. The suspect had outstanding arrest warrants. The suspect was arrested for $110,000 in warrants and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.
April 30
- Deputies responded to a keep the peace call at Cat Harbor. The informant stated he wanted to retrieve his 8’ fishing boat that other people were using without his permission. The man told deputies he got into a verbal argument with the people the day prior and did not want any problems. The fisherman retrieved his boat without any issues as the deputies stood by.
