Sheriff’s Log: April 18 to April 24, 2024

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period April 18 to April 24, 2024.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

April 18

  • Deputies responded to a fight call at the Mole. The caller stated 2 male adults were fighting at the gate. The deputies arrived and detained 2 men and a woman. During the investigation it was determined one of the men was smoking weed while waiting in line for the boat. While puffing on his Mary Jane, the man thought it would be OK to blow his smoke in the other man’s face. It was not OK and the 2 men began to argue and ultimately engaged in hand to hand combat. The fight was over prior to the arrival of the deputies and neither combatant wanted to pursue charges. The man was advised Pot in Public is against the law.

April 19

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Country Club Drive. The caller stated a man was arguing with other occupants at the hotel. The deputies contacted a loud man and woman and told them to keep the noise down. They reminded them it was 2:30 in the morning not 230 in the afternoon.
  • A man came into the Sheriff’s Station and said he missed his court date for a traffic ticket. The deputy ran an inquiry on the man and discovered he had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court. The man was issued a new citation with an upcoming court date. He was also reminded the importance of showing up and being on time.
  • Deputies received a call of 5 males drinking in a golf cart. The deputies arrived and located 5 men enjoying their lunch and taking in the breathtaking views of Avalon Harbor. There was no evidence of drinking during the lunch hour.

April 20

  • Deputies responded to Cat Harbor regarding a stray bison in the area. The deputies stayed on scene until a conservancy ranger arrived and took over watch.
  • Deputies responded to the Casino for a man trespassing and sitting on the front steps. The deputies arrived and contacted the informant. The trespasser left before the deputies arrived.

April 21

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call at the Plaza. The caller stated 4 men were arguing and getting ready to fight. The deputies contacted the men who were arguing. They separated all parties and asked them to leave the location. One of the men would not leave and continued yelling. Deputies tried to speak to the man and calm down. The man was having trouble keeping his balance and was obviously intoxicated. Suspect Ruben Mulgado, 41, of Avalon, was arrested and booked at Avalon Station on suspicion being drunk in public.

April 22

  • Deputies responded to a family disturbance on Tremont Street. The caller said her child was refusing to go to school. A deputy and sergeant responded and spoke to the child whom they know from prior contacts. They explained the importance of a good education and reminded the child that school was a full time job. The child agreed and was taken to school.
  • Deputies responded to a domestic violence call on Country Club Drive. The caller stated he witnessed a heavy set man in boxers drag a woman by the hair and into the room. The deputies contacted the man and woman who said nothing happened. They said they were both drinking and were only arguing. Due to the statements provided by the witness, Suspect David Diaz Rodriguez, 40, of Minnesota, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. He was booked at Avalon Station.

April 24

  • Deputies responded to a traffic collision on Beacon Street and Sumner Avenue. Upon arrival, they saw a rental golf cart had been rear ended by another golf cart that was coming down the hill. The driver said she could not stop in time and ran into the back of the cart. A report was written and all parties refused to go to the hospital.
