The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of April 13 to April 16.

“Many people who get arrested do not get convicted or even charged with crimes for which they have been arrested,” said Fetteroll.

Deputies assigned to Avalon Station recognized their strong cadre of Sheriff’s Station volunteers by honoring them with a barbecue dinner.
Special recognition was given to Arlene Blake who received the Sheriff’s Department’s Volunteer of the Year Award for Avalon Station at a recent ceremony in the city of Industry.

April 13 to April 16
• No significant incidents.
April 17
• Deputies assisted with a multi-agency response to an airplane accident at the Airport in the Sky. The pilot and a passenger were seriously injured, but survived the accident. The cause of the accident is under investigation. (Please see page 3.)
April 18
• A resident of Long Beach reported being the victim of a theft after a visitor to the island found her lost wallet, but removed her money from the wallet before it was turned in.
April 19
• The City of Avalon reported the bathrooms at the Cabrillo Mole had been vandalized in March.
April 20
• The Sheriff’s Department and the Avalon School collaboratively conducted a non-intrusive search of the middle and high School lockers using a narcotics detection canine.
The search was done for the safety of all the students in an attempt to locate any and all types of drugs.
No drugs were found.
• Deputies conducted a random, non-intrusive narcotics operation at the Cabrillo Mole using a narcotics detection canine.
The dog alerted to the presence of a small quantity of Marijuana in the possession of one visitor to the island.
Deputies determined the Marijuana was legally possessed for medical reasons. No other drugs were found at the location.
The Sheriff’s Department will continue to conduct random, non-intrusive narcotic detection operations at the above locations in an effort to enforce the laws of the State of California and for the safety of the community.
