The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period April 11 to April 17, 2024.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
April 11
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Pebbly Beach Road. The caller stated people were talking loudly on a balcony. The deputies arrived and reminded the disturbing parties it was 2:45 in the morning and most people had work the next day. They were cooperative and agreed it was time to call it a night.
April 12
- Deputies were contacted at the Sheriff’s Station by a resident requesting a Letter of Agency for trespassing. The resident stated she did not appreciate having her property damaged or trespassed on. A Letter of Agency was signed and served to the concerned party.
- Deputies responded to Crescent Avenue for a business disturbance call. The informant stated a man and woman were arguing with staff because they would not serve them anymore drinks. The deputies contacted the couple and advised them each business had the right to refuse service. The deputies went a step further and even educated them on drunk in public laws. The couple appreciated the education and decided it was in their best interest to leave.
- Deputies were contacted at the Sheriff’s Station by a man who stated he lost $1,000 in cash and needed a report for his bank. After the initial contact the man returned home and found the missing money in another sweater. I wish we were all that lucky, not to find our missing money, but to have $1,000 bucks in cash.
April 13
- A deputy on patrol saw 2 adults walking on Sumner Avenue drinking alcohol. The deputy detained them, reminded them they were not in Las Vegas and cited them for drinking in public.
April 14
- Deputies responded to Bird Park for a petty theft report call. The victim stated the vending machine had items taken from inside. The incident and suspect were captured on video. Detectives are working the case.
April 15
- Deputies responded to the Mole for a disturbance call. The caller stated he was confronted at his work by a man whose girlfriend was having issues with his wife. The deputies advised the man of restraining order procedures and advised him to obtain one if he felt it was needed.
- Deputies responded to a fight call on Sumner Avenue. Upon arrival, they saw 2 men engaged in a wrestling match on the ground. With the help of a local resident, the men were separated and detained. The deputies immediately observed one of the combatants to appear to be extremely intoxicated. Luis Tamayo, 39, of Avalon subsequently arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and was booked at Avalon Station.
April 16
- The captain was on patrol and observed a vehicle fail to stop for the posted stop sign at Beacon St. and Sumner Ave.
He conducted a traffic enforcement stop and cited the driver for the vehicle code violation.
April 17
- Deputies responded to Metropole Avenue for a possible violation of a protection order. The deputies determined no crime had been committed and the man was merely looking for employment.
