Saturday is 19th Annual Shop at Home Night on Catalina

Shop At Home Night kicks off with a tree lighting ceremony on the Wrigley Stage on the waterfront in Avalon at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.  The shopping event will be held from 5-9 p.m.

The Avalon School’s woodwind and brass quintet will play Christmas carols.  Shoppers can gather around to watch the festivities as Santa and his “helpers” arrive by Fire Truck.

The Jingle Singers carolers will stroll as shoppers pick up the Treasure and Discount cards and hit the stores.

Many of the participating stores will be offering refreshments and holiday treats.

On Shop At Home Night, each store will have a drawing to give away an in-store gift or gift certificate.

Participants who get a Treasure Card stamped at each of the participating merchants may enter to win reservations for two to the 2012 New Year’s Eve Gala.

Shoppers will also receive one Shop at Home Discount Card valid through Christmas Eve at any of the 17 participating Avalon retailers.

The discount card can be picked up during Shop At Home Night at any participating store and will be good for 10-20 percent off all purchases made at any participating store between Dec. 1 and Dec. 24.

Some merchants are offering a larger discount on Shop at Home Night only.

No purchase is necessary to receive the Shop at Home Discount Card or to enter the in-store drawing, but you must be 16 years or over.

Other events happening during Shop At Home Night include:

• Get your photo taken with Santa.  Bring two cans of food to El Galleon Restaurant and get a free photo with Santa.

• Toys 4 Tots Toy Drive & Bake Sale, sponsored by Unit 400 Avalon Cub & Boy Scouts, Wrigley Stage 5-9 p.m.

Bring an unwrapped toy or cash donation and receive a baked goodie.  All toys will benefit local children.

• Avalon Community Church and Singing Waters Christian Center prayer booth.

• Nov. 29 -Dec. 1—The Avalon High School Theatre Department presents “The Worst High School Play in the World” at 7 p.m.  $6 adults, $4 students/seniors.

• Dec. 1—Ladies Catalina Christmas Brunch at the M Restaurant by Zest Catering.  9:30–11:30 a.m.  Tickets must be purchased in advance.

• Dec. 3-Dec. 14—Santa’s Mail Box in the Post Office Arcade.  Any child wishing to write Santa will receive a reply if they include their return PO Box.

• Dec. 8—Holiday Celebrations Cooking Class at the M Restaurant

• Dec. 14—Holiday Open House at the Catalina Island Museum featuring free admission to the museum’s current exhibition, discounts of 10 to 50 percent in the Museum Store and a special tasting provided by Steve’s Steakhouse.  4-7 p.m.

• Dec. 15—Aero Club Social Fly-In. Participants may fly in or take the Wildlands Express up to the airport from Avalon. Anyone attending the event may visit with pilots from all over southern California and view historical planes on display.  The fly-in will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Call (310) 510-0143 for reservations on the shuttle.

• Dec. 15—Beach Cleanup Join volunteers to clean one of the Windward Beaches on the second Saturday of every month. The van leaves at 8am from Conservancy House. Call Volunteer Coordinator Cindy Lazaris at (310) 510-2595 ext. 109 to make reservations.

• Dec. 15—Breakfast with Santa at 9 a.m. at Antonio’s Pizzeria & Cabaret.  The cost is $5. The breakfast is sponsored by Catalina Kid Ventures.

• Dec. 22—Tour of Lights  Departs from Wrigley Plaza Stage from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  Cost is $2 per person or $5 per family.

• Dec. 23—The 2nd Annual Holiday Christmas Parade, 3 p.m.  Meet at Big Ben.  Decorate a float and join Mr. and Mrs. Claus to celebrate the Holiday Season.  (310) 510-1011.

• Dec. 31—El Galleon and Antonio’s New Year’s Eve Party.

• Dec. 31—The 40th Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration, Casino Ballroom  Reservations include a buffet dinner, dessert, dancing to a live band, one collectable bottle of wine per couple, a champagne split per person and party favors.
