Transient Occupancy Tax was down 10% in February, according to Avalon Finance Director Matthew Baker, who spoke during the May 21 City Council meeting.
His remarks were separate from his third budget update to the council.
(For more budget news, see page 3.)
“It seems to rebound in March. March was only down about 1%,” Baker said.
“If you remember from the first budget presentation we gave a low-end, high-end estimate range and the low end was around 5%,” Baker said.
“I still think we’ll be within the range and that range means for the year around $7.8 million against $7 million budgeted, so still, again, above where we were budget-wise but that is down about $400,00 from the last fiscal year,” Baker said.
He described $7.5 million as staff’s budget number for the next fiscal year.
“Other revenues were actually up in March,” Baker said.
He said the ad tax was up, as well as cross channel wharfage. He said nightly mooring revenue was pretty much flat.
“So, kind of a mixed bag,” Baker said.
He said he would have April numbers at the next council meeting, but it was too early to tell what April looked like.
He said at the June 4 meeting, he’ll have a better sense of where April finishes.
