More than 40 participants, dressed in Pink, gathered at Wrigley Stage last Sunday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m., to make history as Avalon’s first ever More Than Pink Walk took place. More Than Pink Walks take place in many cities and this year Avalon, on Catalina Island, joined the ranks with a satellite event related to the large LA Walk held the same day. The participants walked to the Casino, through town and out to Cabrillo Mole raising awareness and visibility of the impacts of Cancer. Survivors and Fighters posed for a photo on the stage, while all of the supporters along with those fighting or won also gathered at the Casino steps for a group photo. Avalon City Councilmember Yesenia De La Rosa kicked-off the event with a welcome speech and was joined by members of her own family in support. The Casino was lit in pink for the occasion too. Special thanks to all who participated and local sponsors including Catalina Xtreme Parasailing, city of Avalon, Catalina Island Company, Avalon Rotary, Vons Avalon and Love Catalina Island. The walk is a program of the Susan G Komen Foundation.
