Christmas time is always special for our Avalon residences as families come together and children come home. Those coming back to Avalon now have a new beacon of light to guide them back. The City of Avalon with donations from Love Catalina were able to receive a new 24-foot tree.

On Dec. 3, the Tree lighting Ceremony along with Shop Catalina welcomed in the Christmas Spirit of Avalon. The day was festive with music throughout front street and live entertainment. Shoppers and passersby could enjoy the Gingerbread houses that were decorated, hot chocolate and popcorn supplied by the Rotary Interact club.

The Catalina Kid Ventures sang their cute versions of Christmas Carols which is always a showstopper and then the Jingle Singer Holiday Carolers gave a holiday concert to raise the spirits more. Santa came down front street in his sleigh for the day, old Engine 2 from the City Fire Department.

But the star of the show was the new 24’ Christmas tree. Santa help count down as 9-year-old Brynn Thoricht, who was voted to have the Most Christmas Spirit Year around from Avalon Schools, pulled the lever and turned Christmas on. The town lit up from the center and Santa took time in his busy schedule to take pictures with the town folks. The City is happy to make this Christmas and future Christmas’s more joyful.
