The Special Events Committee on Catalina Island has welcomed Mike Bone, President and CEO of Spectrum Sports Management, as their new Committee Chair. The committee is dedicated to attracting events to the island, while also ensuring the current high-quality events taking place on the island remain. Along with attracting and preserving events on Catalina Island, the committee works towards their goals of becoming one of the preferred event locations anywhere, and be regarded as professional, welcoming and easy to do business with.

Bone is a leader in the endurance sports industry, as he has been involved in owning and operating sports marketing and management companies in Southern California for over twenty-five years. On top of managing notable events like the Hi-Tec Run Catalina Island Race Series, he has created and manages several dozen sporting and charity events throughout California.

“I’m so thrilled to be asked to serve as the Committee Chair for the Special Events Committee on Catalina Island,” said Bone. “I’ve dedicated much of my career to executing quality events, including producing the Run Catalina Island Race Series on Catalina Island. To be a part of this committee is a great honor and I can’t wait to help contribute to their great efforts.”

“I am thrilled with the news of Mike’s stepping into this important role in growing our island economy through special events attraction,” said Jim Luttjohann, President of the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce. “I know he will bring the same excellence to this role that he has demonstrated in events management both on the island and mainland as well as in his past service on our board of directors.”

Bone was born and raised in Southern California and is a graduate of the University of California at Irvine, with a degree in economics. He is married to his wife, Bonnie, whom he met at UC Irvine and has two sons, Andy and Matt. Both boys are competitive athletes themselves and can often be found working alongside their dad in preparing another endurance event.
