The Catalina Island Medical Center’s new chief of Patient Care Services David Hamlin comes to Catalina Island from Kahuku Medical Center in Oahu, Hawaii. A native of Maine, Hamlin lived his whole life there until three years ago.
He graduated from the University of Maine in education and nursing, then went on to earn a master’s of science in nursing from the University of Southern Maine. His experience in clinical administration, nursing, operations services, and as a professional consultant with a long term care provider give him the type of management skills the hospital needs.
“When CIMC called, I couldn’t wait to get to work,” Hamlin said.
“I look forward to integrating the Medical Group Office more fully into the hospital’s operations by having both entities communicate and collaborate on staffing, scheduling and care delivery,” he said.
Hamlin is an early riser and enjoys greeting and interacting with his nursing staff at the 7 a.m. shift change.
He is already making a difference in hospital procedures and has hired a new activity director for the residents.
Hamlin’s parents are in their 80s. he has two daughters and two grandsons, all living in Maine. Catalina Island is closer to Maine than Hawaii, so his migration east continues. “I’m excited to see the Island’s Interior and patronize the great restaurants in Avalon,” Hamlin said.
At a “Meet and Greet” reception to introduce Hamlin to Medical Center staff, CEO Bryan Ballard said, “David is bringing great experience and energy to the hospital and we are very fortunate to have him here.” Catalina Island Medical Center is pleased to welcome David Hamlin to the staff.
