Avalon High School’s Adalberto Martinez was selected as the MaxPreps Athlete of the Week.
The MaxPreps/AVCA Regional High School Boys Volleyball Players of the Week honors eight of the top high school boys volleyball performers each week throughout the United States which is out of all 50 states. Over this past weekend he led the Lancers to four wins and put up some great numbers starting with 89 kills, 55 digs, 44 receptions, 18 aces and 9 blocks.
Adalberto is one of the most hard-working student athletes here in Avalon, his coach, Carlos Martinez said.
“He prides himself in becoming better every day. At the beginning of the season he was just attacking in the front row and serving on the ground now; he attacks from anywhere on the court and has developed a great jump serve,” Martinez said.
Coaches take: Adalberto is only a sophomore and is a leader on and off the court. One thing that sets him apart is his determination. He’s very determined. He doesn’t give up, no matter how hard it seems. When he hits a ball out or misses a serve, He gets right back up and tries again. He is a three-sport athlete and his commitment is incredible.
