Honoring Dr. Denny
The Catalina Island Museum is honoring Dr. Richard Denney’s commitment to animal welfare on our Island. We wanted to take this opportunity to convey our gratitude and appreciation for all of Dr. Denney’s efforts. For many years, Dr. Denney has been a close and essential partner to the Catalina Island Humane Society.
CIHS is a NO KILL operation and Dr. Denney has been instrumental in completing thousands of spay-neuter and vaccination procedures for our trap, spay-neuter, vaccinate and release program. Because of his efforts, we have humanely reduced the feline population on the island. Even though we strive to find loving homes for all the cats and kittens that come under our care, it is just not possible. With Dr. Denney’s help, we release healthy animals who are free to roam, and our volunteers provide love, feeding and monitoring for any medical issues for the entirety of the animal’s life. Dr. Denney gives as much care and attention to our unhoused animals as those animals with forever homes. I know I can speak on behalf of the island’s animals by saying, “We are alive and well because of you, Dr. Denney. Thank you for your kindness and care.”
With much gratitude,

Nurse praises care at Catalina Island Health
My name is Jody Cranton RN, and I find I MUST write this to let our community know how professional, caring, kind and thorough my extended stay at Catalina Island hospital was. I was admitted as an inpatient at the hospital and since I worked at the hospital for almost five years as a nurse, I feel this letter is both objective and honest.
From the ER to being admitted to the floor, my care was excellent and exceeded all my expectations. I have been seen in the ER for serious health issues many times from California, Phoenix, New Mexico and Boston.
This time I did not have to take a helicopter ride to UC Irvine or Torrance Memorial and my care here equaled and exceeded the caliber of care I received overtown.
The video visits with Dr. Byrne who was the hospitalist/ intensivist were amazing and more personal than all the daily visits from the many specialists I had to see in other hospitals. He collaborated well with my other doctors and answered all questions and requests. He appreciated the research I had done as to my future needs and treatments and took time to discuss the rationale for his plan of care.
As a nurse, I was amazed at the level of knowledge of the doctor, nurses and aides taking care of me and was impressed with the local as well as travelling nurses. This applies to the clinic as well as the ER with an incredible staff of doctors as well as Nurse Practitioners. I never fail to get a quick appointment and personalized care. This includes the clinic, laboratory, x-ray, physical therapy and dietary departments. I was also seen by a specialist while I was there.
The community needs to be aware of how skilled and wonderful the care is here and there was no inconvenience of being at UCI or Torrance Memorial.
I highly recommend CIMC for all your medical needs and encourage you and your family to stay on the Island, when possible, for all of your healthcare.
Sincerely yours,
Jody Cranton
