The Catalina Outdoor Adventure Club recently held a grand opening event for its new archery range. The Catalina Outdoor Adventure Club is a non-profit organization that seeks to enrich the lives of Catalina youths, by introducing and educating them to outdoor recreational activities and adventures.
Our mission is to educate and facilitate guided outdoor recreational adventures—from hiking, camping, and boating to hunting, fishing and archery and everything in between. Through these experiences, we aim to develop a person’s skills, knowledge and abilities while instilling a deep respect and appreciation for the outdoors, the club stated in a press release about the archery event.
The COAC seeks to instill the idea that outdoor recreation and engagement with nature can have a life-changing impact on young people. The COAC board consists of dedicated public servants and is entirely volunteer based.
“This is just the beginning! We’re excited to continue building this program and offering more opportunities for our community,” said Jacky Cordero, COAC Board Member.
The archery day event was done in collaboration with the City of Avalon Recreation Department. Catalina Cookie Company also supported the event, including supplying treats for the participants. The opening celebration included 15 youths who were enjoying Spring Break from school.
Instructors from Oranco Bowmen Archery Club volunteered their expertise and safety instruction to provide a safe and supportive event as the children learned to shoot, while having fun. The COAC is looking for more volunteers who want to help young people discover the power of outdoor adventures. They can also use financial help for those can help.
