In game one of the Catalina CoEd Softball doubleheader, Leave it to Leo Handyman took on a short-handed Sunset Bar & Grill. Grecia Conde started the game with a great catch behind the plate for the first out of the game. Leave it to Leo Handyman then rallied with two base hits and doubles from Robert Reyes, Luis Lazaro and Johnny Hernandez to bring home four.
Jose Merino hit a double for Sunset Bar & Grill in the bottom of the inning, but two runners were left stranded. Leave it to Leo Handyman added another run in the second inning. In the third inning, a walk, a base hit, and doubles from Robert Reyes, Marco Gallegos and Leo Aguilar had another three cross the plate for Leave it to Leo Handyman.
In the sixth inning, Leave it to Leo Handyman added another run off the RBI triple from Marco Gallegos, who was thrown out at home trying to stretch it to an inside-the-park home run. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Sunset Bar & Grill got on the board when Rafael Silva hit a triple and later scored. The game ended with the score Sunset Bar & Grill 1, Leave it to Leo Handyman 9.
For Sunset Bar & Grill Maddie Hiniker collected three hits. Gabriel Alvarado contributed two hits. Jose Otavo, Jose Merino, Ben Guzman and Rafa Silva had one hit.
For Leave it to Leo Handyman Robert Reyes, Marco Gallegos and Luis Lazaro were three for three. Aimee Casillas also collected three hits. Edmundo Vega contributed two hits, while Nestor Cubillas, Leo Aguilar, Johnny Hernandez, Phil Lopez, Santiago Martinez and Matilda Martinez had one hit.
Game two between Buoys & Gulls and Straight Up Builders proved how hardy softball players are. They didn’t let a little rain slow them down. Buoys & Gulls turned a walk into a run in the top of the first inning. Straight Up Builders answered with an RBI double from Sebastian Sanchez.
Uriel Castillo hit a double for Straight Up Builders in the second, but was left stranded. In the third inning Straight Up Builders had their best rally of the season so far. Seven base hits and a double from Julio Chavoya had seven coming home.
In the fourth inning Buoys & Gulls brought home two runs on two errors, a base hit and a double from Joey Yakubec. Brandon Franco made a great over the shoulder catch at short and turned it into a double play for Straight Up Builders.
In the bottom of the fifth inning Straight Up Builders used a walk, three base hits, a double from Uriel Castillo and a triple from Brandon Franco to add four more to their score. Buoys & Gulls rallied in the top of the sixth with a walk, two base hits, and doubles from Juan De La Cruz and Hugh Bevins to bring home four.
With time expired, the game ended with the score Buoys & Gulls 7, Straight Up Builders 12.
For Buoys & Gulls Weston Leonhardi, Joey Yakubec and Missy Schafer contributed two hits. Chuy Sillas, Juan De La Cruz, Hugh Bevins, Ulises Alvarado, Caitlin Lopez, Rachel McCormick and Kayla Feairheller had one hit.
For Straight Up Builders Paul Daniel Romo, Uriel Castillo and Alexa Morones were three for three. Sebastian Sanchez and Briana Morones contributed two hits. Brandon Franco, Dillon Gleber, Sergio Vallejo, Julio Chavoya, Irving Aldaco and Brittany Randall collected one hit.
