For many years, Catalina Island and USC have shared a wonderful tradition of celebrating the Fourth of July together. The arrival of the USC band is always a highlight of the holiday, beginning with rehearsals in the town plaza and culminating in their participation in Avalon’s July 4th parade.
One of the most anticipated moments occurs when members of the horn section make a surprise appearance from the balcony of Hotel Vista Del Mar during the parade. As they exit the street procession and perform from above, it creates an unforgettable experience for both visitors and residents.
To commemorate this special tradition, Latitude 33 created a “Celebrating Avalon” shirt featuring the USC band, cheerleaders, and several of Avalon’s iconic landmarks. In support of the band and the local fireworks display, this year we are donating $1,720 from the sale of those Celebrating Catalina shirts to the City of Avalon to help fund the band’s participation and the annual fireworks celebration.
