The Avalon High girls varsity volleyball team won the Liberty Christian Tournament for the second year in a row. They were led by Oceana Martin Machado’s defense and Genesis Zavala’s blocking. Setter Alyssa Figueroa was named the Tournament MVP. With hitting, the Lancers were led by Mel Olivette, who had 33 kills and Jastelin Alcalá who had 26 kills. Avalon’s first home league match is on Saturday, Sept. 12 versus Legacy College Prep at 11:30 a.m.
