Avalon football team is loaded with talent and experience

Football season is back and with that comes that Avalon Lancers football team. With this fresh upcoming season comes a fresh Avalon football team that is loaded with talent and more importantly, experience.

The Lancers junior class is full of three-year starters who learned early in their careers the meaning of winning and losing. These juniors were freshmen back in 2017, when the Avalon 2-6 campaign took place. Now the team is a lot bigger and definitely more experienced, Avalon scheduled this season as a redemption road through teams like Foothills Christian (week 2) and Animo Robinson (week 3) who in 2017 beat the Lancers with a combined score of 92-16.

Avalon has a strong group of leaders who have been through the ringer and know how to come out on top. The Lancers captains for this season are DeAngelo Reyes, Jose Silva and the teams lead captain Adalberto Martinez.

Avalon’s offense will be led by senior Antonio Ramos, who has taken over as the signal caller. The Lancers offense is once again looking to break records with players such as junior receiver Adalberto Martinez, junior fullback DeAngelo Reyes, junior running back Jose Silva, junior lineman Jesse Grange and sophomore linemen Uriel and Gustavo Hernandez.

The Avalon defense is in typical form, anxious and hungry. They will be led by safety Adalberto Martinez and linebacker Jose Silva. Martinez is a third-year starter who led the team in interceptions and is not only fast to the ball but punishing as well. Silva is also a third-year starter at middle linebacker where he’s a natural and those who go against him, quickly find out that he is built for that position. DeAngelo Reyes, Antonio Ramos, Juan Hernandez, Uriel Hernandez, Gustavo Hernandez and Allen Campos all join the strong Avalon defense.

Other notable players who make up this seasons Lancers program are junior kicker Adrian Rodriguez, sophomore linemen Chris Haro, freshmen linemen Francisco Arellano, junior receiver and defensive back Jonah Sampson and freshmen receiver and linebacker Marco Campos.

The Lancers football staff is comprised of managers Samuel Carrasco and Morgan Curiel, wide receivers and defensive backs coach – Cruz Martinez, linemen coach – Jeffery Hernandez, skilled players coach – Enrique Dominguez, utility coach – Dave Zeller, team trainer – Andrew Hobbs, special teams and conditioning coach – Ruben Segura, offensive coordinator – Nick Morones and head coach Michael Forcella.

The Lancers football team have their season and home opener (Joe Machado field) on Saturday, Sept. 7 taking on the Ocean View Christian Patriots with kickoff at 4 p.m.
