The teams have met three times this season, with Avalon sweeping the series, taking the first contest by the score of 3-0 and the second by 4-0.

The Lancers owned a 2-0 lead in the first half and chipped in another in the second. Alex Herrera knocked a goal during that stretch and goalie Jason Cisneros earned the shutout, which marked Avalon’s 11th of the season.

The Lancers (16-1, 9-0) have not lost a game since their season opener, when they fell to Webb Schools by the score of 5-0 in a non-league matchup. Last year, they captured the league crown with a 13-1 mark and made it to the third round of the postseason,

They finished in second two years ago with an impressive 11-1-2 record that came up short behind Tarbut V’torah. Chadwick eliminated from the second round.

Girls Soccer earns results

The Avalon High girls’ team earned a couple of favorable results last week.

It won by forfeit against Capistrano Valley Christian on Feb. 7. It then tied Saddleback Christian, which occupies the No. 2 spot in the San Joaquin Valley League standings.

It did that with a 1-1 score on the road on Feb. 8.

The Lancers (7-7-3, 5-4-1) didn’t do as well this week. No. 4 ranked Tarbut V’torah (Irvine), which owns sole possession of first place, visited Catalina, where it posted a 2-1 victory against the Lancers on Feb. 10.
