The Avalon Boys Golf Team had an interesting and exciting two weeks of golf. They won three of four matches and had two different players make a hole-in-one in back-to-back matches. On Thursday, March 23, Junior Damien Pedroza scored the second hole in one of his lifetime on the Par 3, 2nd hole at the Catalina Island Golf Course.
His teammate and cousin Jose Pedroza accomplished the same feat on the mainland on Tuesday, March 28, scoring the second hole-in-one of his lifetime at the Par 3, 9th Hole at River View Golf Course in Santa Ana.
On Thursday, March 23 the Lancers defeated Western Christian 189 to 211 at home. Then they traveled to the mainland on Tuesday, March 28 for a Tri Match against Samueli Academy and Western Christian. The Lancers defeated both teams with a 185 score against a score of 242 for Samueli and a 190 for Western Christian. Two days later they traveled to the mainland to face Fairmont Prep at the Fullerton Golf Course. Unfortunately, the Lancers came up short in this match by 11 strokes, 192 to 203. They are now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Rigo Pedroza continues to be our best golfer consistently shooting even par or a few strokes above. Damien Pedroza and Jose Pedroza are battling over positions 2 and 3, while Cole Konigsmark has had a pretty good grip on position 4. Francisco Bravo has been our most improved golfer and is currently in position 5. Six players play in the match and the 5 best scores are used.
Our next 3 matches are at home on Tuesday, April 25 against Fairmont Prep, Thursday, April 27, against Samueli and Friday, April 28 against Webb. These matches will decide our team playoff fate and will prepare us for our league individual tournament which takes place on the mainland on Tuesday, May 2, and Wednesday, May 3. Our last match of the regular season will be Friday, May 5 against Cabrillo High School.
