It was anticipated as marquee game on the schedule. Avalon High, runners up in CIF-SS Div. 2 against California School for the Deaf-Riverside, champions of CIF-SS Div. 1.

The CSDR a little banged up, a fired-up Lancers team had little trouble with the Cubs, winning the game, 70-6, on Thursday at Joe Machado Field.

“I think the guys were just a little locked in,” said Head Coach Nick Morones.

Morones said that assistant coach Cruz Martinez put together a great game plan for the defensive line and they had the CSDR offensive line a little overwhelmed. Conversely, the Lancer O-line was clicking and runners Issac Rivas and Nathan Jones were able to be very efficient running the ball. The Lancers were scheduled to host Winward on Saturday, but injuries forced Winward to cancel due to a shortage of players.

Morones said the team was looking to schedule a game for next week, when the Lancers had a bye on their schedule. The Lancers are clicking and don’t want to risk losing momentum. They will play at Faith Baptist of Canoga Park on Sept. 23.
