More good work is happening in Ensenada, thanks to the people of Avalon. Members and friends of Avalon Community Church (ACC) and Homes of Hope have come together to build a home in only two days for a working family in Ensenada.

This is the 14th home that has been built over the years by teams from ACC. Since 1990 over 6,000 new homes in 21 countries have been built by HofH volunteers, helping families in poverty via the gift of a new home.

You can now make that at least 6,001 homes as members of Avalon Community Church recently returned from a “build” in Ensenada, Mexico. Before heading off to the build, dedicated locals raised the funds for building materials and furnishings for the home. Monies came from a variety of sources and activities needed to raise over $12,000 before the build could begin. As part of the fundraising, ACC members were blessed to conduct the very first fundraising raffle outside of the new Vons Store, thanks to the encouragement of manager Brian Riley.

Builder Jani Eisenhut gives this account of the time building the home. “Working alongside the San Diego/Baja Mexico chapter of HofH, we arrived in Baja on Thursday evening Feb. 7, and the next morning we were driven to the building site. At the site we found a pre-formed slab foundation, tools and building supplies. Most importantly, we found the family for whom we were building the home. They spoke no English, many of us spoke no Spanish, but we communicated with lots of laughter, hand signs and an interpreter, and God’s love and grace which was there in abundance. The family joined our team with great enthusiasm.”

“On Saturday, our second and last day of building, not only was the house finished, complete with new beds, stove, kitchen table and chairs, there was even time to build a dog house for the pooch. Finally, the keys to the home were turned over to the family after a time of prayer and thanks to God our Father. Prayers that the house would serve the family well, and thanks for the opportunity and privilege to be a part of this ministry with only minor wounds among the builders!”

If you would like to be part of a future build, please know everyone is welcome to participate in the next Avalon Build Team. We are shooting for a build again in the fall. Contact Daniel Everson at 760-709-6624 for more details or to just let him know you are interested in joining us in the future.
