Mrs. Patti Engel received a surprise visit from the Grinch on December 22, 2024, on her last day of work before entering retirement.

During the Grinch’s visit, he stopped by Mrs. Engel’s office to interview her. Mrs. Engel moved to Catalina Island in 1980 and started working at Avalon School in January 1990 as a Senior Office Assistant. After two years of hard work, she became the official Student Body Banker and continued that position until her retirement.

In January of 2001, Mrs. Engel was also the Athletic Director until her retirement from that position in 2022. Her career highlights include being the only person in school history to own three CIF rings for baseball (2001), boys soccer (2010) and eight-man football (2012). She was also given the GOLDEN TICKET for all Moore League and Avalon School home games and playoffs.

When asked about her future plans, she simply said “I would love to travel, explore and enjoy life, but most importantly spend time with my family. I have really enjoyed working at Avalon School. Each year is just a little different with a different group of students. I walk away with so many great memories. I am truly appreciative to have had this career.”

Thank, Ms. Patti, for your service here and the great memories. We shall miss you and wish you the best of luck for the future.
