Annabel Lee Haney quietly passed on Dec. 19, 2018 in Bakersfield. She was a 27-year resident of Kernville, CA.
Ann was born on September 21, 1928 in Porum, Oklahoma to Bud and Floye Belle (Miller) Pryor. She was the second of the eight children they would eventually have. She lived in Oklahoma until the 7th grade when her family moved to Caliente, California, then to Bakersfield and then to Johnsondale where Ann began high school in Kernville, the first year the two-year high school opened.
As WWII began, her family moved back to Oklahoma for several years. As times grew tough in Oklahoma, her family returned to California, finally settling in Randsburg, CA. where she finished high school. She then attended Bakersfield Community College and later transferred to San Jose State University where she graduated with a degree in medical technology.
She served an internship at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco and was employed there in the bacteriology and chemistry departments. She married in 1954 and had her only son.
In 1960 she moved with her son to Bakersfield to work at the Kern County Hospital laboratory. From there she moved to Catalina Island in 1966 where she worked at Avalon Municipal Hospital for the next 20 years. She went from doing lab and x-ray to becoming administrator of the hospital.
In 1986 she re-married Donald Haney, who owned the weekly newspaper, the Catalina Islander. After she retired from the hospital she went to work with Don and worked in the office and editorial departments. In 1991 they sold the newspaper and moved to Kernville.
She was actively involved in the community around the Kern Valley. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kernville, a member of the Kern River Valley Woman’s Club, the KRV Historical Society, and she was a charter member of the Kate Fansler Book Club. She also sang with the Kern Valley Sweet Adelines for 15 years. She especially enjoyed playing bridge, singing in the church choir, volunteering at the museum and visiting with friends and family.
She is survived by her son, John Regalado Jr. of Avalon, CA and a grandson, Keith Regalado of Fallbrook, CA.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Wofford Heights Elks Lodge, 6708 Wofford Blvd, Wofford Heights, CA. 93285 on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 11 a.m.
